SCARY SIDE EFFECTS OF TEA THAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW.

Tea is such a comfort drink! Almost all of us want to snuggle with a hot cuppa, along with a plateful of pakora when it rains. Tea is the first thing we think of while returning home after a long day at work. In fact, it is also used as a cure for sniffles and light fever. Most of us swear by our adrak wali chai and tulsi wali chai. But there is a dark side to this comfort drink. It can also cause health issues in some people and if taken in uncontrolled proportions. Here is a list of some facts that will give you creeps.
  1. Sleep Disorder and Diuretic Effect: Caffeine in tea can lead to a mild diuretic effect if taken excessively. It can also cause sleep disorders.
  2. Constipation: Theophylline a chemical in the tea can lead to a dehydrating effect during digestion, causing constipation. Many believe that taking tea in the morning helps us to have a clear bowel movement, while drinking excess amounts of tea can cause constipation.
  3. Anxiety and Restlessness: The caffeine is one of the most popular mood-enhancing drug and it has some good as well as bad effects on our body. Consuming too much of tea can lead to sleep disruption, restlessness, anxiety and increased heart rate.
  4. Possibility of Miscarriage: Pregnant women should avoid tea completely, as its caffeine content can harm the development of foetus and pose a threat of miscarriage.
  5. Prostate Cancer: This is the worst side effect of drinking too much tea. Research has shown that men who are heavy tea drinkers may be at higher risk for prostate cancer than those who don't.
  6. Cardiovascular problems: The caffeine in the tea is not good for the cardiovascular system and those having heart ailments or are recovering from cardiovascular disorders should avoid tea.
